Christian Grabandt - Berlin, Germany

A Warburton Mouthpieces and Eclipse Trumpets Performing Artist

I was born February 19, 1966 in Hameln, Germany - town of the pied piper - where I started playing the trumpet at age ten. When I was sixteen, I went to the USA as an exchange student, and pretty much stayed there until 1988, when I received my Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies and Performance from the William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ, outside NYC. There I studied with Rufus Reid, Harold Mabern, Dave Samuels, Steve Turre, Dave Rogers, John McNeal, Eddie Henderson, Jack Walrath, Chico Mendoza, Todd Coolman, Richard Boukas, David Berger,.....

I returned to Germany in 1989, just in time to see the wall come down, and moved (as a family of four) to Berlin as member of the RIAS Radio Big Band. With this wonderful band, I was fortunate to play concerts, record CD's, and film TV productions with:

Clark Terry, Randy Sandke, Shirley Bassey, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Gilbert Becaud, Dave Brubeck, Conte Candole, Ernie Watts, Natalie Cole, Robin Eubanks, Alan Farnham, Astrud Gilberto, Stephane Grappelli, Lee Konitz, Jon Faddis, Claudio Roditi, Richie Beirach, Jim McNeely, Jens Winther, Kenny Wheeler, Till Brönner, Chris Potter, Lalo Schifrin,.....

Since 2010 I play lead/solo trumpet in the Friedrichstadt-Palast, Berlin. Besides that I keep quite busy with all kinds of freelance work (jazz clubs, studio...) as well as extensive gardening at my home in Brieselang.

Here are some names of musicians I have played and/or recorded with:

John Beasley´s Monk’estra, Thomas Quasthoff, SEEED, Robbie Williams, Sahib Shihab, Xavier Naidoo, Söhne Mannheims, Chico Mendoza, NDR Big Band, hr Bigband, Larry Porter, The Temptations, The Supremes, Fury in the Slaughter House, Experimenti Berlin, Maria Joao, Jocelyn B. Smith, Nana Mouskouri, Ed Schuller, Hank Roberts, Mack Goldsbury, Kenny Martin, Frank Möbus, Setona, Pete Bender, Matt Wilson, Chuck Findley, Trio Mocoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil),  Udo Jürgens, Angelika Milster, Veronika Fischer, Schöneberger Sängerknaben, Gail Thompson, Hakan Hardenberger, Radio Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Deutsches Symphonieorchester unter Vladimir Aschkenazy,.....
